Sitemoth monitoring

A monitor recrawls a site on a schedule, compares the crawl with the previous one and sends an alert when something changed. Open it from Monitor on the Overview. The monitoring overview lists what it alerts on.

Create a monitor

  1. Press New monitor. Sitemoth fills in the start URL from the open crawl.
  2. Pick hourly, daily or weekly and a time.
  3. Tick the changes to alert on, and add the key pages to watch closely.
  4. Add a Slack, Microsoft Teams or Discord webhook, a webhook URL or SMTP email settings, and press Send test.
  5. Press Run now to make the first crawl. Later crawls are compared with it.

Background mode

Monitors run while Sitemoth is open, one at a time, and wait while you run your own crawl. Turn on background mode and Sitemoth registers the monitor with launchd on macOS, a systemd user timer on Linux or Task Scheduler on Windows, so it runs when the app is closed. The computer has to be on.

In background mode the system scheduler cannot open your keychain, so the monitor's webhook URLs and email password are stored in a file in the monitor's folder that only your user account can read. The Monitoring dialog shows where.

sitemoth monitor run acme-monitor.json
sitemoth monitor install acme-monitor.json --dry-run
sitemoth monitor list
sitemoth monitor uninstall acme-monitor.json
